Why I Stopped Drinking Coffee

If you have known me for a while you know that I have an obsession with coffee, or used to.

A little over a month ago I decided to stop drinking coffee. Before I stopped I had coffee every morning sometimes a more than one cup. I drank it black with no sugar. For a while I would notice that when I drank several cups my anxiety levels would rise and sometimes I would even get jittery and not be able to sit still. It didn’t help that sometimes I drank coffee with no food in my system causing my heartbeat to race because it didn’t know what to do with straight caffeine on an empty stomach. I was not the biggest fan of this unbearable anxiety.Tea.JPG

At first, I decided to limit the amount to only a cup a day. No more, no less. This step alone helped my anxiety greatly, it improved my sleeping patterns as well. I did this for a couple of months and I like the results, but what if it could be even better? I decided to take it a step further and quit coffee completely.

I switched to tea (my favorite is Earl Grey) with honey every morning. The first day was miserable. I had a headache for 24 hours. After that it was smooth sailing. Within the first couple days I notice I had more energy and I was getting more sleep just from lowering my caffeine intake each day. My anxiety has been less obvious since I stopped as well. It’s funny how changing a daily habit can improve so much in your life.

I never thought I would stop drinking coffee. It was such a key element of my daily life for years now, but I can’t picture drinking it daily for the rest of my life. A lot of people think it gives you a boost in the morning and it does but only for so long before you crash, and drinking it daily over a long period of time can decrease the amount of decent sleep you get. So, I only seem harm, for me anyways. Maybe it depends on the person.why-i-stpped-drinking-coffee.jpg

It’s important to take care of yourself, and I hope some of you will consider going without caffeine too. I’m a tea drinker now, and it’s my favorite part of the mornings. Sometimes I just sit in my room with my Billie Holiday on, drinking my tea, and blog, read, or work on something else. I love my morning routine so much…on days that I’m not in a rush.

  1. It’s funny: when I was like 10 I wanted to drink coffee so bad and my mother wouldn’t let me. THANK GOD. Because now I don’t like coffee and don’t need it to function.

  2. I know my anxiety is worse with caffeine (actually did a post on it haha) but I also know that my anxiety exhausts me to the point where I find it hard to get through the working day. I know I can go without coffee because I do on my days off but sometimes you just gotta boost yourself halfway through the day. Also I don’t like tea haha xx
